In the past, relevance was attached to people who invented and discovered things. Importance was attached to people who were able to either invent, heal or talk about the supernatural. Hence the three noble professions of the old were philosophy, medicine and the clergy.
That's why names like Aristotle, Hippocrates and Socrates always ring a bell for their wealth of knowledge and the value they brought in their time.
Shortly after this era, there was the era of discovery and invention where names like Graham bell and Michael Faraday were in the spotlight.
Today, there are a lot of things that can attach relevance to a person.
What is relevance in my opinion?
Well, there is some objectivity in relevance and also some subjectivity. For example, if everyone rode a bike to work and I was not using a bike and I was maybe using a scooter even if I had the money to buy the bike, the bike and the manufacturers are not relevant to me in my opinion. However since the majority of the population use bikes then it can be said that there lies its relevance.
It's the same for Facebook, I dont use Facebook and although it is relevant to a lot of people, I can't find its relevance in my life.
So what is relevance and who are relevant people?
Relevance is when the impact of what is being offered affects me and has the potential of affecting the people around me positively.
People who fall under this category are the relevant people of our time in my opinion.
I will also go on to say that the relevant people of our time to me are the people that have made life better for me. I write on hive today and I earn from it and from there I get investing tips on @leofinance and also invest from there.
So I would start by saying that the relevant people of my time are people that have made me have a glimpse of financial freedom.
The number one person that I will credit for being the most relevant person of our time to me is the man Paul Baran. Paul Baran was the man who proposed the origin of the internet and the works done were built on the proposal that was initiated by him. The reason why he is first on the list is that without the internet, a lot of things won't be possible. People will still have to go to their brokers to put trade or having to send a letter for days before it gets to who they are sending a message to. But since this post is about our time, I would say the relevance should be attached to people who offer a degree of freedom. Be it freedom of speech, freedom of earning anything. People who add value that can translate to a better living.
Who are the greatest people of our time in my opinion?
The brain behind cryptocurrency, Satoshi. Satoshi envisioned a world of convenience for the common man in terms of financial transactions. He knew that the banking system was flawed and provided a solution. Although Elon has some other things to say but who cares?
The next relevant persons are the brain behind the hive blockchain. A lot of people use Facebook and don't earn anything for using the website and mark cashes out steady. Some can't even afford a meal a day. I joined hive when I was at my lowest and I can say hive has helped me and many other people in Nigeria and other developing countries. The witnesses who ensure that the blockchain is regularly updated and improved as to how to make the hive ecosystem better are too relevant.
The last set of relevant people are the people with information. In the past before the advent of the internet knowledge used to double every hundred years. Todayknowledgee changes every 5 years. The set of people who are willing to share information that will yield a better life for everyone if they take the opportunities are so vital. @leofinance community is a community that offers endless knowledge on financial issues. It's not all about the money but it's also about having a better life and that starts with being a little bit financially okay. Warren Buffet happens to be someone I look up to anI I say he is one of the relevant ones of our time to me and if you dont agree it is my opinion. He has drafted his principles into books and the books have helped a lot of people. This is when I say someone is relevant. It goes to say that if you listen to warren and follow his principles, you will have some great investment in your portfolio.
The founder of youtube is another person who has done a lot although he has decided to limit people's freedom by censoring. Youtube remains a place where you can obtain information and remember information is power( Although power is power).
I knew a lot of people will be expecting names like Elon Musk and the likes of Mark and the rest. I am sorry maybe in the future they might affect me directly but at present, they are not doing much in terms of giving me a better life.
